Only those who apply research to real life give knowledge its true value.

Steinbeis Foundation: Our Mission
Knowledge and technology transfer based on conviction“Making scientific knowledge available to the country's economy” – this has been the central mission of the Steinbeis Foundation for over 40 years. In doing so, we are following in the footsteps of our famous namesake, Ferdinand von Steinbeis, whose values and ideals continue to shape our actions to this day.
Ferdinand von Steinbeis
Duality of knowledge and economyFerdinand von Steinbeis (1807-1893), widely known as the father of dual education in WĂĽrttemberg, was a true pioneer of technology transfer: as president of the Royal Central Office for Trade and Commerce, he promoted the exchange of knowledge between science and industry as early as the mid-19th century, paving the way for the establishment of numerous technology-oriented companies in the state.
The duality of knowledge and business was always essential for Ferdinand von Steinbeis – summed up in his famous quote: “Only those who apply research to real life give knowledge its true value.”
The Steinbeis Foundation today
Promoting and applying knowledgeWe firmly believe in the transformative power of technological innovation and the importance of effective technology transfer – especially for a country like Germany, whose most important resources are education and knowledge.
Our mission is to further develop Steinbeis' idea of the duality of knowledge and application and actively carry it into the future. Specifically, this means:
Promoting business start-ups:
We support innovative minds in using their technological knowledge to found successful companies.
Enabling knowledge and technology transfer to industry:
Through the project work of Steinbeis companies, specialist publications by Steinbeis Publishing, and events, we bring the latest knowledge into industrial practice.
