Knowledge for the heating transition

Through Steinbeis EnRev, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Schäfer brings his expertise in energy efficiency, thermal energy systems and sustainable heat supply to the Steinbeis network. The new Steinbeis company, based in Nuremberg, is aimed in particular at towns and local authorities, energy suppliers and project developers.

Kai Schäfer has been Professor of Energy Efficiency at the Georg Simon Ohm University of Applied Sciences, Nuremberg, since 2020. Following his diploma in Process Engineering at Mannheim University of Applied Sciences, his academic career led him to complete his PhD at Dresden University of Technology in 2017. At Nuremberg Tech, his teaching and research areas include energy efficiency, energy process engineering, renewable energy supply and the simulation of thermal energy systems. He is currently also involved in the ‘District Heating Systems’ programme, which teaches engineering skills for the planning, construction and operation of modern heat supply systems.

Through Steinbeis EnRev, Kai Schäfer translates these specialist areas into concrete transfer services. The range of services includes thermal simulations for the development and optimisation of sustainable heat supply systems, feasibility studies and transformation plans for local and district heating, as well as support for municipal heat planning and decarbonisation. Technical, economic and environmental potential are considered holistically to establish a robust basis for planning and investment decisions.

Steinbeis EnRev expands the Steinbeis network in Bavaria with valuable expertise for the heating transition and creates new opportunities for practical knowledge and technology transfer.
