Special Prize Winner Prof. Dr. Joachim Goll
Prof. Dr Joachim Goll has been awarded a special prize by the Steinbeis Foundation in recognition of his many years of outstanding service in knowledge and technology transfer for the Steinbeis network.
Joachim Goll studied physics at the University of Stuttgart and subsequently obtained his PhD there at the ‘1st Institute for Theoretical Physics’. He began his professional career at SEL – now Alcatel-Lucent Deutschland AG – where his roles included system designer and programmer, Head of Software Engineering and Head of System Software. In 1992, he accepted a post at what was then the University of Applied Sciences for Technology in Esslingen – now the University of Applied Sciences, Esslingen. There, alongside his teaching duties, he was entrusted with managing and developing the Software Engineering degree programme; he also launched joint projects involving school pupils, teachers and the university, as well as the model of free holiday courses. His books providing an introduction to the Java and C programming languages have since become standard texts for students. Joachim Goll began his work with Steinbeis in 1991 as a member of staff at the Steinbeis Transfer Centre for Communication Technology at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences. Three years later, he founded the Steinbeis Transfer Centre for Software Engineering (STZ) in Esslingen, which has since developed extremely successfully and established itself as a competent and reliable partner for bespoke IT solutions in automation technology and the automotive industry. Clients are supported with modern technologies and processes in the design and development of software, as well as in the operation of Linux systems and networks.
Working from the STZ, Joachim Goll has founded further companies together with STZ staff and with the support of Steinbeis.
With his STZ, situated at the interface with Esslingen University of Applied Sciences, Joachim Goll has set an example of the successful practical application of knowledge and technologies. Thanks in particular to the centre’s proximity to the university and its welcoming working atmosphere, he aims to be an attractive employer for graduates with expertise in the latest technologies, offering them the opportunity to gain qualifications whilst working, right up to Master’s degrees and PhDs.
