The Steinbeis Network operates under a not-fornon-profit umbrella organization called the Steinbeis-Stiftung (Steinbeis Foundation). In line with foundation statutes (German version), the Board of Trustees lays down fundamental working practices for the foundation. The Board of Trustees has 23 ordinary and 23 alternate members – representatives from trade and industry, science and academia, politics and public administration. The Board of Trustees Committee is made up of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and six representatives.
The remit of the foundation is to make scientific insights available to industry; in other words, to foster know-how and technology transfer. To this end, the foundation draws on a variety of instruments: Steinbeis-Edition, the publishing arm of Steinbeis, which issues specialist publications written and edited by experts in the Steinbeis Network as well as the Ferdinand Steinbeis Institute (FSTI) that is an interdisciplinary hub for transfer-oriented research on digitization and networking. Steinbeis also organizes regular symposia on current technology and management topics, reflecting the fields of competence of the organization. Finally, more than 1,100 enterprises in the Steinbeis Network are involved in the implementation of live transfer projects through their everyday work.
