Steinbeis-Transferzentrum Power Electronics for renewable energies, electro mobility and sector coupling

The Steinbeis Transfer Center Power Electronics for renewable energies, electro mobility and sector coupling deals with power converter technology used in the grid integration of renewable energies, storage systems, electrolyzers, and electric vehicles, also collaborating closely in this field with both the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Economics and Energy System Technology (Fraunhofer IEE) and the Chair of Electromobility and Electrical Infrastructure at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS).

The Steinbeis Enterprise offers the following services:

Consulting and expert reports:

  • Expert assessments
  • Strategic consulting
  • The arrangement/provision of experts

Research and development:

  • Topology research and studies
  • Development of control methods, software solutions, and demonstration units
  • Measurements and testing (power hardware in the loop, calorimeters, switching cells, load variation testing)
  • R&D projects with partners in industry and science

Training and staff development:

  • Seminars
  • Training courses
  • Workshops

Key Areas

  • Characterization, modeling, and testing of semiconductors, magnetic components, and power converter systems
  • Circuit diagram development and PCB design
  • Development and adaptation of test environments (calorimeters, switching cells, load variation testbeds, power hardware in the loop)
  • Grid integration of power-electronically coupled decentralized generators, storage units, and loads
