Steinbeis Transfer Center Biomechanics, Training and Sports Technology

Services

  • Development and application of diagnostic methods for the identification of individuals and collectives with prognosis regarding high risk of special acute and chronic stress damage
  • Performance diagnostics and determination of performance limits in the area of high-performance sports
  • Development and evaluation of concepts for the improvement of motor skills during old age and in cases of degenerative restrictions
  • Individualized optimization of training impact through the improvement of energetic, coordinative interplay between sport and machine training (fitness and rehabilitation equipment)
  • Evaluation of general and individual impact of protective and rehabilitative Equipment
  • Transfer research and development consulting in the area of orthopedic remedies and aids (such as bandages, tapes, orthoses, shoes, splints and protectors)
  • Technology consulting during the development of innovative athletic and training Equipment
  • Methods: The broad spectrum of research and services is based on integrative linkage of complex biomechanical examination methods in our laboratory. We use the most up-to-date technologies possible in order to ensure differentiated, multiple perspective approaches to solutions for various challenges:
    • 3D video, high frequency motion Analysis
    • 3D ultrasound-based, real-time motion Analysis
    • Dynamometry
    • Electromyography
    • Posturometry
    • Modeling and Simulation

Key Areas

  • Biological and physical basis for movement and training
    • Research on the causes and manifestation of human motion considering the functional organ systems involved
    • Description and explanation of training-conditional biopositive and bionegative adaptation processes in organ Systems
    • General and individual optimization and prognosis of training impact

Project Examples

  • Functionality tests of non-elastic adhesive dressings (tape)
  • Materials testing (constant load tests)
  • Orthopedic shoe interiors
  • Impact of orthopedic insoles and bandages
  • Neuromuscular and mechanical impact of knee joints and patellar tendon bandages
  • Evaluation of load attributes for school bags
  • Attribute and functionality tests for stabile shoes used in Rehabilitation
  • Medical user reviews on performance characteristics in functional, stabilizing aids
  • Impact of strength training and fitness equipment
