  • Studies, market research and expert reports related to GIS
  • Design and development of GIS applications
  • Applied research and development in the area of GIS and the Internet
  • Feasibility studies regarding global positioning systems (GPS) and remote sensing as a modern data collection technique for GIS
  • Further education and training related to GIS, GPS, computer-aided cartography and remote sensing

Facilities and equipment:

  • GIS lab with Arc/Info, ArcView Internet Map Server
  • Modern computers including UNIX workstations and PCs with corresponding input/output peripheral devices
  • Remote sensing lab with Erdgas Imagine, Easi/Pace and ERMapper
  • Cartography workstation with PCMap
  • Near area photogrammetry system ELCOVision 10
  • Modern geographic data devices (Leica and Sokkia tacheometry, Leica and Garmin GPS receivers)

Key Areas

  • Remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) for environmental applications
  • Remote sensing photogrammetry in urban areas
  • WebGIS and geodata infrastructure (GDI) development

Project Examples

  • Consulting of ministries (e.g., Ministry for the Environment in Baden-Wurttemberg), administrative agencies (e.g., Forestry Office of Baden-Wurttemberg, city of Rostock) and data processing centers for municipalities (e.g., KDVZ Iserlohn) in the selection and implementation of GIS products
  • Feasibility studies for the use of high-resolution satellites to capture changes in land usage in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (commissioned by BLUM Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania)
  • Comprehensive cartography of actually used areas for the city of Rostock based on satellite data; commissioned by the environmental agency of the city of Rostock
  • Aerial photography and photogrammetric image analysis in agriculture (e.g., agricultural association, KSG Kassow), in landfill planning (Parkentin landfill), in coastline protection (Greifswalder Bodden), and in urban areas (city of Rostock)
  • Near area photogrammetry for the documentation of construction and reconstruction (main university building, several manor houses, estates and farmers’ cottages in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania)
  • 3D city models and 3D city planning with virtual reality approaches (e.g., for the suburb of Kröpeliner Tor-Vorstadt, see website)
  • Multimedia city information systems, for example, virtual city tours of Rostock (see websites)
  • Development of multimedia further education and training programs with authoring systems (see websites)
  • Internet-based GIS developments with ArcView Internet Map Server (see websites)
  • Further training courses on GIS and GPS
