The 2015 Steinbeis Competence Day

Education is of strategic importance, not just for individuals but also for society as a whole. It keeps everything moving forward in a world that is becoming increasingly complex, exacerbated by accelerated change – and occasionally revolutionary change. This year’s Steinbeis Competence Day focused on the issue of education for managers, a topic that was discussed in Stuttgart on December 3, 2015.

If education in the broadest sense is something that puts us and keeps us in good shape for the slings and arrows of life, then given the complexity and fast-moving nature of everything around us, education should be geared to the life-long development of our personal abilities, allowing us to cope with the new and different; indeed, it’s practically a prerequisite for keeping going in the world. Education – which is used to mean the life-long polishing of these abilities – is neither a privilege of the educated elite nor a duty limited to a specific vocational group. In other words, education understood this way is a right that everyone has, perhaps even an obligation for everyone. This applies in particular to people in roles of distinction due to the role of leadership in society.

What could be – or what should be – the best way to educate leaders in the future? This will be the focal topic of a special research project looking at Leadership Education. The project is being spearheaded by the School of International Business and Entrepreneurship (SIBE) at Steinbeis University Berlin and the chair for General Education Science and Education Research at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.

The special research project and researching findings to date were presented and discussed at the seventh Steinbeis Competence Day.

The next Steinbeis Competence Day will take place on December 06, 2017.
